Today, we did the following:

2. Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)[Intro portion I call the ‘story background’]: We started Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) and watched as far as the end of the conversation Luke has with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru about leaving for the flight academy or staying on for another harvest (roughly 26 minutes). I distributed a cast list, a story summary and a viewing guide for this segment of the film. There will be a quiz next class on the viewing guide. Below are as many clips as I could link in chronological order, please pardon any scene repeats or overlapping (please note, these first 26 minutes provide the context and backstory of the overall conflict Luke Skywalker will eventually find himself immersed in; therefore, as a matter of teacher guidance, none of the questions in the Hero’s Journey are necessarily to be answered from this part except MAYBE the discovery of Princess Leia’s message and the conversation with Luke, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru for ‘Phase I: Departure’):

We will continue watching next class and dig deeper into the parts of the Hero’s Journey by answering some of the questions. Today’s viewing of roughly the first half-hour is mostly background information to set us up to analyze the movie with our questions.
